We started around 10:30, which was a bit later than I would've liked, but we were out very late the night before. Waking up was not a pleasant experience! To start, we walked to the very beginning of the Freedom Trail and followed it until we got to Quincy Market. There we picked up a couple salads and bottles of water for a picnic lunch.

We found a quiet spot on the waterfront underneath an arched trellis of vines and leaves. In front of of us was a small park for dogs and sunbathers, and then the harbor. We watched boats come and go and an adorable puppy play with a much larger dog. It was quite entertaining!
After lunch we walked along the wharf, stopping for a few pictures here and there. As we ventured on, we stopped often to take in the water views and to relish in the refreshing harbor breeze. We really noticed a difference in comfort level as we left the Harbor Walk and headed back toward our hotel (in the Theater District).

We debated visiting the Aquarium, but decided to save that for a later date (hopefully with William and Company). Meandering on, we found a few tucked-away parks along the way. Some had beautiful flowers, one had randomly placed red, metal chairs that looked like a perfect spot for a casual get-together with friends, another park had a mist feature, which attracted both young and old on such a hot day. My favorite park was another arched-trellis walkway, surrounded by flowers and anchored with benches overlooking a lush, green area. It was smack dab in the middle of the Financial District. What a happy surprise.

As my previous post stated, we enjoyed a harbor cruise later in the day/early evening, so our walking tour ended shortly after this picture was taken. Boston is such an energetic, fun city. I love the seamless combination of old and new. I hope to visit again soon!
